Purpose, Prosperity, and Peace: Equipping Youth to Strengthen Communities Worldwide

May 15, 2025

At JA Worldwide, we believe that peace is more than the absence of conflict; it is the presence of opportunity. When young people gain the skillset and mindset to launch businesses, secure meaningful employment, and lead with integrity, they become stabilizing forces in their communities. Thriving communities develop when individuals feel purpose, families experience dignity, and neighbors share in prosperity.

Through JA, students learn that entrepreneurship is about more than personal profit. It’s about creating inclusive economies, strengthening social cohesion, and ensuring that no one is left behind. In more than 100 countries—including countries affected by political unrest or displacement—JA youth emerge as job creators, bridge builders, and agents of peace, with futures rooted in hope.

Across the globe, JA helps young people become innovative problem-solvers, ethical leaders, and inclusive collaborators. Through learning experiences, staff development, and research, JA supports a more resilient and interconnected world.

Peacebuilding through Economic Empowerment

JA prepares youth for employment and entrepreneurship in ways that are measurable, scalable, and deeply rooted in local contexts. From flagship initiatives like the JA Company Program to cutting-edge platforms like JA Boost and The JA Institute, our work transforms ambition into achievement and prepares young people to thrive in today’s global economy.

Across diverse settings, the impact is tangible. In refugee camps, students use entrepreneurship education to transform trauma into agency. In rural areas with limited opportunity, they start microenterprises that sustain families and prevent urban migration. And in post-conflict regions, they develop leadership skills that foster reconciliation, rebuild trust, and reweave the social fabric of communities torn by violence or unrest.

The multiplier effect of economic empowerment means that a single student, given the tools to thrive, can uplift a family. A group of students can energize a community. And a generation of JA alumni—equipped with practical skills, ethical grounding, and a sense of civic responsibility—can bend the world toward peace. This work is not theoretical. It is measurable, scalable, and already underway in every JA region.

That’s why JA continues to invest in youth, not only as future employees and entrepreneurs but as architects of more inclusive, stable, and peaceful societies. Because when prosperity is distributed, when innovation is accessible, and when hope is tangible, peace is no longer just a goal. It becomes the world we’re building, together.

Entrepreneurship as a Force for Good

Entrepreneurship is more than launching a business, it helps build a better world. Through the global edition of the JA Company Program, JA students gain the skillset and mindset to create ventures that generate value for their communities while addressing real-world challenges. They learn to lead with empathy, solve problems collaboratively, and commit to the common good. These learning experiences develop not only entrepreneurial acumen but also inclusive leadership and a deep sense of social responsibility.

In April, JA Worldwide and JA Asia Pacific celebrated the launch of JA Pakistan at two of the nation’s leading universities. Through JA Pakistan, young people now have access to JA learning experiences, including the global edition of the JA Company Program, which equips youth with future-forward competencies and a commitment to community-centered leadership. Across the globe, JA students are using entrepreneurship to foster inclusion, promote peaceful collaboration, and design solutions tailored to local needs. From classroom ideas to community enterprises, entrepreneurship becomes a powerful tool for resilience, opportunity, and peace.

The global edition of the JA Company Program supports this vision through five key approaches:

  1. Fostering Cross-Cultural Understanding and Inclusion by encouraging teamwork across diverse backgrounds.

  2. Encouraging Peaceful Problem Solving through dialogue and compromise.

  3. Promoting Social Entrepreneurship for Common Good by inspiring ventures that address community issues.

  4. Strengthening Local Connections via mentor and customer engagement that weaves students into the social fabric.

  5. Amplifying Youth Voice and Agency by helping young people see themselves as changemakers and peacebuilders.

Guided by Values, Powered by People

JA’s global mission is grounded in integrity, inclusion, and excellence, shared values that guide our work from the inside out. Through programs like JA Global Orientation (JA GO), every new staff member learns about JA’s mission, values, and global reach. These onboarding cohorts foster connection across continents, creating a sense of belonging and collaborative purpose from day one.

Leadership development is central to reinforcing JA's values. The biennial Global Leadership Conference (GLC), held both in person and virtually, fosters and enriches a global mindset and collaboration among new and seasoned leaders. Even at the highest levels of leadership, JA board governance reflects the geographies and communities we serve.

Across all platforms, JA intentionally builds and fosters a culture of reflection, trust, and transparency. This values-driven leadership strengthens our staff members’ ability to deliver transformative learning experiences around the world and ensure our internal culture mirrors the peaceful, resilient world we aim to create.

Inspire and Prepare Alumni for What’s Next

JA’s impact doesn’t end at graduation—it continues through the JA alumni network, a global community that enables young leaders to use what they’ve learned through JA to shape their communities.

Ángela Becerra Bernal, President of JA Alumni Peru, has dedicated her life to education, empathy, and action. From childhood visits to low-income neighborhoods to leading volunteer teams in shelters and schools, her story is one of tireless service. Today, she balances her studies in environmental engineering and business with leadership roles across several organizations, including coordinating youth programs at the Ministry of the Environment. “Peace doesn’t always come from grand gestures,” she declared. “It often begins with small acts filled with empathy, service, and commitment.”

In the West Bank, Mohammad Ayasi, President of INJAZ Palestine Alumni, recently led a community iftar for displaced Gaza families. Despite limited resources, his team distributed meals, gifts, and support to cancer patients, children with Down syndrome, and grieving families. “You are not forgotten,” the event communicated—an act of compassion that echoed far beyond the moment. This initiative is just one example of how JA alumni turn insight into action.

Whether it’s launching a community business in Pakistan, fostering inclusion through cross-cultural teamwork, or organizing a moment of kindness in the West Bank, young people around the world are proving that real impact starts with values-driven action. At JA, we're committed to creating the conditions for that impact to flourish—through education, mentorship, and global networks of support. Because when youth are empowered to lead with purpose, entire communities can thrive.
