JA Worldwide and Delta Celebrate Boundless Leadership in Bangkok

November 12, 2023

We’re holding the first in-person Global Leadership Conference (GLC) since 2019 this week in Bangkok, Thailand. Whereas GLC Virtual featured functional training sessions for all staff, GLC Bangkok features a high-level, strategic agenda, focusing on new ways to innovate, expand the way we deliver JA learning experiences, and reach our long-term goal of delivering 100 million student learning experiences per year.

Building on a history of international and national leadership conferences around the network, we offered JA staff two GLC events in 2023. When the pandemic brought GLC online in 2021, we invited all JA staff to join, as well as board members and JA alumni. With the success of the 2021 virtual edition, we decided to do it again for 2023, in addition to a return to the in-person event.

Hosted by JA Thailand and JA Asia Pacific, GLC Bangkok is our first global gathering in the Asia Pacific region. And thanks to our partner Delta Air Lines and Z Zurich Foundation, JA Worldwide has subsidized the GLC conference fee, so that even more JA leaders can attend.

Under the theme of our strategic plan, GLC Bangkok will celebrate all things “boundless.” Day 1, Boundless Connection, features a daylong workshop on leadership excellence led by McKinsey.org. Day 2, Boundless Impact, includes panel discussions on impact with partners and stakeholders and the power of AI, followed by attendees’ choice of a dozen best practice sessions to round out the day. On the third and final day, Boundless Acceleration, attendees will go in-depth with workshops, including one with Design the Life You Love author Ayse Birsel, and keynotes on Youth Voices and the Boundless Acceleration of JA.

Day 3 will wrap up with the GLC gala and awards dinner, where we’ll announce the winners of the most prestigious awards in the JA network:

  • The JA Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes a JA network professional who has significantly contributed to the growth and impact of JA learning experiences in his or her country.

  • The Soraya Salti Award—named in memory of Soraya Salti, who founded INJAZ Al-Arab—recognizes JA visionaries who push boundaries to move JA forward and bring systematic change to a country or region.

  • The JA Bold Tech Award recognizes a JA location that has developed bold-tech learning experiences for students, including virtual or augmented reality, artificial intelligence, an interactive website and app, and other immersive and innovative uses of technology.

  • The JA Access Award recognizes JA locations that develop low-tech or no-tech learning experiences for students who don’t have reliable internet access.

  • The JA Alumni Engagement Award recognizes a JA location that has developed robust alumni strategies, including tracking of, communication with, and engagement projects for JA alumni.

  • The JA Activator Award recognizes the JA location that best activates learning experiences and ideas developed by others within JA. This award is intended to celebrate one of the most important characteristics of good leadership: the willingness to learn from others and execute someone else’s ideas that are not your own.

  • The JA Brand Amplification Awards recognize JA locations that have extended and amplified our brand most effectively, through a marketing campaign, social-media post, ad, video, booklet, report, speech, article, website, poster, or other marketing collateral. Three winners will be awarded.

We’re excited to see many of our JA leaders in person this week in Bangkok and celebrate achievements from our JA staff and JA offices around the world, and we’ll keep you updated throughout the event here on our blog and social media.
