About Us/Boilerplate update:

  • The About Us language is for ROC websites to use on your About Us page, or anywhere that you show your affiliation with JA Worldwide. Our request is that you use this language (verbatim, except that you can delete the word “hyperlink”) somewhere on your website, and link to jaworldwide.org. Our target date for completion is June 30. At this time, only ROCs (not member countries/areas) are being asked to put this language on sites. But if countries/areas want to do it, or if you want to send customized language to member countries/areas that also discusses their affiliation with your ROC, that’s great.
  • The boilerplate is for you to use, as needed. If it helps you in writing press releases or applying for grants, great. If your ROC boilerplate is going through an update and this is helpful, also great. Or if you like what you have for your ROC boilerplate, just as great. There are no strings or obligations associated with the boilerplate.
  • “JA activates youth for the future of jobs” is what we’re calling the impact statement, and you’ll see it used in both the About Us and boilerplate language. It doesn’t need to be used anywhere else or in any other way. It was the starting point around which the About Us and boilerplate were developed.
  • JA’s mission, vision, and values remain the same.

Company of the Year Competition dates:

  • JA USA National Student Leadership Summit: June 18–22 (Washington, D.C.)
  • JA Europe Company of the Year Competition: July 11–13 (Brussels, Belgium)
  • INJAZ Al-Arab Young Entrepreneurs Competition: November 19–22 (Cairo, Egypt)
  • JA Americas Company of the Year Competition: November 27–30 (Sao Paulo, Brazil)
  • JA Africa Company of the Year Competition: December 6–8 (Johannesburg, South Africa)
  • JA Asia Pacific Company of the Year Competition: TBD (China)

Our next meeting: June 28

April 12, 2017 Meeting (forgot to record)

In attendance: Ed Grocholski (JA USA), Winnie Ho (JA Asia Pacific), Dima Masri (INJAZ Al-Arab), Mathilde Poncelet (JA Europe), Erin Sawyer (JA Worldwide), Tere Stouffer (JA Worldwide consultant), Maame Yankah (JA Africa), Hernan Zocco (JA Americas)

Proposed structure for future meetings:

  • Round-robin of recent successes and what’s coming up for each of us (this helps the entire organization know what Worldwide and ROCs are doing): 20 min
  • Presentation by a member of the group or a guest invited by a member of the group (to share best practices, experiences learned, especially relating to topics in question 1, above): 15 min
  • Updates on the Centennial: 10 min
  • Feedback on projects we’re working on (these would be submitted to the group in advance, we’d review them before the meeting, and then use this time as a workshop, offering feedback and ideas): 15 min

Results of our group survey:

1. What areas would you like our committee to focus on?

  • Web-social media (5 strongly agrees and 1 agree)
  • Centennial planning (5 strongly agrees and 1 agree)
  • Alumni engagement (4 strongly agrees and 2 agrees)
  • JA brand/logo (4 strongly agrees, 1 agree, 1 neutral)
  • Advice/feedback on campaigns, content, and/or copy (3 strongly agrees, 2 agrees, 1 neutral)
  • Donor engagement (2 strongly agrees, 3 agrees, 1 neutral)
  • Brand calendar (1 strongly agree, 4 agrees, 1 neutral)
  • Design assistance (2 strong agrees, two agrees, 2 neutrals)
  • Volunteer recruitment/engagement (1 strongly agrees, 2 agrees, 2 neutrals, 1 disagree)
  • Student/school recruitment and/or engagement (1 agree, 3 neutrals, two disagrees)

2. How can you (and, perhaps, your ROC marketing colleagues) be of assistance to other committee members?

  • Share ideas and help brainstorm
  • Share content and best practices
  • Share knowledge and exchange best practices
  • Give design and content-generation support
  • Offer sources for cost-effective overseas post production
  • Share best practices

3. Are there additional people who would be valuable to this committee?

The overwhelming answer was “none,” but some would like additional marketing people (web/social or PR, for example) to be on the committee.

4. Will you be attending the Global Leadership Conference (GLC)?

Four are attending for sure (Dima, Ed, Winnie, Maame), and two are either not coming or not sure (Mathilde and Ed). Because of the busyness of the schedule, the preference is to find a time to meet to network only (not a work session), and to be sure we get Hernan and Mathilde on the call via iPads.
