For over 100 years, Bechtel has built some of the world’s greatest structures: the Hoover Dam, Trans-Arabian Pipeline, NASA Launch Complex 40, international airports, subway lines, rail lines, and roads.
For the last six years, Bechtel has partnered with JA to build the world’s most precious resource: young people across the globe. As one of Bechtel’s four Signature Partners, JA works with Bechtel volunteers to teach the skills young people need to activate the future of jobs and improve the quality of life in their communities.
A truly global partnership, Bechtel is active in 20 JA locations spread throughout 13 countries—from Gabon and Chile to the Philippines and Qatar—focusing specifically on global youth unemployment, especially the rising gap between the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) careers competencies employers seek in young people applying to fill those positions. Too often, students remain unaware of the opportunities available to them in STEM and other related fields and fail to understand how their schoolwork and non-technical skills translate to their pursuit of careers.
Bechtel’s engagement with JA Worldwide creates an avenue to connect directly with youth. Four Bechtel executives serve on JA boards, while countless other Bechtel volunteers work directly with students in the classroom, accessing JA programs to teach soft skills and share both their experiences and excitement about their careers.
