NEWS RELEASE Contact: JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT PERU TEEN ENTREPRENEURS WIN JA AMERICAS COMPANY OF THE YEAR TITLE Students show dedication to fostering economic growth across Latin America and the Caribbean through business acumen and innovation Bogotá, Colombia On Friday, JA Worldwide® (Junior Achievement) crowned teen entrepreneurs of Organitsso from Peru as the 2011 Americas JA Company of the Year at its third annual regional competition. After three days of competition, during which 19 student companies from 12 Latin American and Caribbean countries participated in a trade fair and pitched their companies to a judging panel comprised of business leaders, Organitsso emerged victorious at a gala awards ceremony at Holiday Inn, Bogota. Organitsso produced a custom designed hand-made organizer for scraves, ties, and belts. The second-place winner was Uywa from Ecuador. Uywa produced a multi-use pajama pillow holder with Ecuadorian endangered animal designs. Third place honors went to Tea & Cups from Argentina. Their product, tea boxes and cups with decoupage designs, support positive values. The Rising Star Award (honorable mention) was awarded to Ecolam of Bolivia who produced a hand-crafted lamp with low power consumption. The event had broad student representation from across the region: Junior Achievement teams from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela participated in the event. The Americas Region JA Company of the Year Competition is a contest of business skills, ingenuity and innovation. It celebrates the accomplishments of JA Company Program® students, ages 15-19, during the 2010-2011 academic year. Under the mentorship of volunteers from their local business communities, students start and run their own businesses, developing and marketing a product or service to realize a profit for their shareholders. Through qualification rounds, finalist teams are selected to showcase their business acumen before a panel of independent judges who evaluate each student company's annual report, business presentation, trade booth display and interview performance. The judging panel included representatives from the following companies: Strategic Public Relations Group, Planners Investment Group, General Director Amway Colombia, Vaits S.A. Technologies, Redeban Multicolor, Scotia Bank Colombia, Jorge Tadeo Lozano University, Iconoi S.A. Technology, Liberty Insurance. In addition to crowning the Americas JA Company of the Year, the event named the winners of its signature award: the FedEx Access Award. This award was presented to Uywa from Ecuador for presenting the best business plan with the potential to create jobs, grow small business, expand global development and improve the environment.
